COLD CREEK

The homeowners came to us with drawings for a home extension. Realizing the extent and cost of the project, they opted instead for a backyard renovation to extend their living space during the summer and create a place to relax and entertain.

Our design and construction teams didn’t disappoint.

The design leverages the substantial grade change across the property to create entertaining areas across multiple levels. From the back door of the house, the Azek deck leads to a swim spa and hot tub and gives access to the cabana and bathroom. Two sets of steps lead from the deck to different areas in the yard. Straight ahead, one set leads to the lounge with a custom stone firepit. The other set leads from the deck to the outdoor kitchen and bar, under the upper portion of the two-level pergola. The lower portion of the pergola shades the dining area. Louvred vertical panels along the rear of the pergola create privacy.

Nearly 60 linear feet of horizontal privacy panels create a modern divider between neighbours at the side and rear, providing privacy for the pool deck and lounge.

Throughout the landscape, low voltage lighting illuminates the steps and highlights the levels as the sun sets.

Site Challenges:

• The inground hot tub and swim spa provided a unique challenge. Both are sunken into the deck and require crawl space and control panel access. To give access without creating an eyesore, we built operable panels in the deck that blend seamlessly when closed.
• The property slopes significantly away from the house. By incorporating multiple levels, we created unique functional areas that each feel like their own room
• The design of the pergola spanned two levels of the backyard, requiring sophisticated engineering and precise construction.
